Welcome to the first short publication of the Kikulacho Cultures Series™ that discusses popular cultures that may be having a negative impact on your financial well-being.
We live in a society where an arrangement known as marriage is encouraged. The arrangement is considered an important part of the culture in many societies today. Even though the way it is practiced differs slightly from one society to another, there has been an increase in conflict between the individuals involved in this arrangement known as marriage. I believe it is time to start evaluating this arrangement in terms of its financial and social viability on both individuals and society. Here are a few examples of the negative financial impact of this popular culture:
According to the U.S. Center for Disease Control, Costs of intimate partner violence (IPV) against women alone in 1995 exceeded an estimated $5.8 billion. These costs included nearly $4.1 billion in the direct costs of medical and mental health care and nearly $1.8 billion in the indirect costs of lost productivity. This is generally considered an underestimate because the costs associated with the criminal justice system were not included. The positive expectations of marriage for many, have become a mirage!
The way that the arrangement known as marriage is currently practiced by many today, creates economic dependency between adults. And just like societies where economic dependency of adults is the promoted culture, marriages are failing and destroying life experiences.
