The culture of fearing uncertainty, and the false solutions adopted

Welcome to the twelfth short publication of the Kikulacho Cultures Series™ that discusses popular cultures that may be having a negative impact on your financial and personal well-being. The word “Kikulacho” comes from the Kiswahili (Swahili) language, and literally translated into English means “what is eating you”. However, in practice it is used in the Kiswahili language to mean “what is ailing you”. A popular Kiswahili saying “Kikulacho Ki nguoni mwako” is the inspiration behind the name of this short publications series. The practical English translation of this saying is “what ails you is within you”!

“Uncertainty is the only certainty there is, and knowing how to live with insecurity is the only security.” (John Allen Paulos)

“The outline of our lives, like the candle’s flame, is continuously coaxed in new directions by a variety of random events that, along with our responses to them, determine our fate. As a result, life is both hard to predict and hard to interpret.” (The drunkard’s walk by Leonard Mlodinow)

“In this life, security is a fallacy…., Overcome the “Permanence mentality syndrome”. Even business stability should be challenged…employment has the ability to destroy your self-confidence as a creative being and gradually develop a dependent mentality.” (You don’t need a job by Dr. Kinyanjui Nganga)

The industrial revolution provided humans with the ability to provide solutions to uncertainties and insecurities that had historically been the norm.

That era has now come to an end for two reasons. The first is that technological advances have enabled the institutions to rely less on human labor for production. The second is that the same technology is now allowing for the easy access to technological know-how enabling the population to go back to the former scenario whereby they could produce the good and services for themselves without buying them from the institutions.
