Knowledge & communication sector

Definition of knowledge per Wikipedia

Knowledge is a familiarity, awareness, or understanding of someone or something, such as facts (propositional knowledge), skills (procedural knowledge), or objects (acquaintance knowledge). Knowledge can be acquired in many different ways and from many difference sources, including but not limited to experience, education, reason, memory, scientific inquiry, exploration, and practice. The philosophical study of knowledge is called epistemology.

Humans use their senses; sight, sound, taste, smell and touch to gather and better understand the information that creates their library of knowledge.

Definition of communication

Communication is the act of conveying meanings from one entity or group to another through the use of mutually understood sounds, signs and symbols.

Definition of Language

A language is a structured system of communication. (Per Wikipedia).

Per the Merriam dictionary online, language is the words, their pronunciation, and the methods of combining them used and understood by a community.

Culture and language

Language evolves over time to reflect the life experiences/scenarios of the people/community that use it.

I define culture as standardized ways that people choose to act or react, given various life scenarios. Their standardized reactions or actions originate from their thought processes on various life scenarios, based on their knowledge to-date on how to act or react to them.

Culture and language are thus linked by the fact that it will mirror the life experiences/scenarios of the people/societies that use it, and will emphasize the widely accepted and/or popular cultures.

When evaluating a language for the promoted/popular cultures, one can look at the most popular quotes, stories, music lyrics, art, etc., and can determine, for example, if the promoted cultures mostly emphasize self-reliance/self-sustenance or dependency cultures.

Based on usage, I categorize cultures into three main types; individual cultures (e.g. what time you choose to regularly go to sleep or wake-up), society adopted cultures (e.g. marriage, circumcision, symbolic rituals, traditions, etc), and popular cultures (e.g. social media usage).

Based on characteristics, I categorize cultures into two main types; “collectivist” and “individualistic”. “Collectivist” cultures give priority to the needs of the collective society over the needs of the individual, while “individualistic” cultures do the opposite.
